Putin offers to use ruble more actively in BRICS settlements

BRASILIA, Nov 14 (PRIME) -- Russian President Vladimir Putin offered on Thursday to use the ruble more actively in transactions between the BRICS states.

“I would like to remind you that the Russian national currency ruble is fully and freely convertible into any global currency. Keeping in mind the stable macroeconomic situation in the country, the ruble can be an additional means of payment between our states and it meets all these requirements well,” Putin said.

He offered to raise the share of financing of the New Development Bank (NDB) of BRICS in national currencies.

“I would like to offer to raise the share of financing of projects in the national currencies of the states of BRICS,” Putin said.

He said that the step would not only raise the weight of the currencies of the BRICS participants as alternatives in international settlements in the global economy, but would help avoid additional risks and costs during mutual settlements.
